Al Qaeda Extremists have infiltrated UK police force?

Now this is scary if true. The Daily Mail is reporting that

Up to eight police officers and civilian staff are suspected of links to extremist groups including Al Qaeda. Some are even believed to have attended terror training camps in Pakistan or Afghanistan. Their names feature on a secret list of alleged radicals said to be working in the Metropolitan and other forces.

Why haven’t they been fired if MI5 is aware of their links to terrorist groups? “Astonishingly, many of the alleged jihadists have not been sacked because - it is claimed - police do not have the “legal power” to dismiss them…..[and] Classified intelligence reports raising concerns about police staff’s background cannot be used to justify their dismissal.”

I’m sorry but that sounds totally crazy to me. If there is evidence, even tenuous evidence, that someone has links to terrorist groups, you should be able to dismiss them from the police force. These people have access to sensitive inside information, they have the ability to warn of upcoming raids or arrests or that someone is under surveillance to name only a few problems that having someone on the police staff who is a potential terrorist or, at the least, a terrorist sympathizer. This may have already happened:

Suspicions are growing that the gang behind the failed London bomb attacks could have received inside information about rescue procedures in the aftermath of an atrocity in the capital.

The Daily Mail can reveal that the second device parked near Haymarket was left at a designated “evacuation assembly point” where civilians and the emergency services would have gathered had the first bomb gone off.

Just last year it was discovered that a leading member of an extremist Islamic group was working as a senior official at the Home Office. Abid Javaid, the senior official in the Uk’s Home Office is a leading member of the group Hizb ut-Tahrir. This group has been banned in many other European countries, such as Denmark, but Britain has not yet –despite repeated attempts– placed it on the banned list because they aren’t considered to be encouraging violence despite the fact that the group promotes racism and anti-Semitic hatred, called suicide bombers martyrs, and urges Muslims to kill Jewish people “wherever you find them.” Just like 3 days ago I watched the arguments taking place in the House of Commons (via TV of course) trying to ban this group again with ample evidence presented showing that this group is indeed calling for violent action, most specifically against Jews but also against others.

Obviously, the extremist groups are trying to infiltrate all levels of government and key positions …and quite obviously they are succeeding. Equally obvious is that the British government is not doing enough to stop it and I fear that they are going to suffer the consequences somewhere down the line.

Elementary my dear Watson…. I saw this coming years ago as the UK lurches forward in zombie like submission to Political Correctness and fear of offending the muslim sector. Government solution to threats seems to be appeasement appeasement appeasement and hey…let there be an ethnic quota of muslim police officers. Everyone now knows that extremist muslims are a highly resourceful and determined group of psychopaths who will go to any lengths to achieve their goals of maximum death and destruction. Infiltration into positions of respect and authority within society is the way forward for these people, so eloquently demonstrated by highly qualified doctors being involved in the recent foiled attacks in London and Glasgow. So it’s not surprising to read about infiltration into the police. What makes me so FUCKING ANGRY is that the police don’t have the ‘legal power’ to dismiss them. Only in this stultifyingly idiotic Politically Correct UK lunatic asylum can this happen. Finally, I believe that the Royal Navy has a muslim Admiral!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Flychek –I see no problem at all with muslims serving in the police and the military and government and so forth. Your average muslim is not an extremist and so of course should be welcomed into any position for which they are qualified. What I do see as a problem is not being able to dismiss those –or not doing sufficient background checks to begin with before hiring –who have extremists links. That is a problem.

This is totally crazy. I hope that the people in the UK wake up before it is too late to avoid a horrible catastrophe. Interesting that the academics initiating and supporting the academic boycott in Israel aren’t interested in the terrorists in their midst.

C’mon, people, it’s The Daily Mail. If they reported that water was wet I’d take a drink to check.

  5. noa says:

I agree with Coweird, the Daily Mail is not exactly known for reputable journalism. It is a comic book compared to the broadsheets. I don’t know what the equivalent in the US would be, but really you do have to be rather careful with believing the British media.

Having said that, there may be a bit of fire attached to this smoke.

  6. Yael says:

AC –very true. BTW I got you the last copy of “the book” that was at the campus bookstore. Can you send me your snail address so I can mail it to you? :)

Noa — exactly. It did get picked up by all the other press after it came out in the DM but they may or may not just be piggybacking on the DM story.

Why should that come as a surprise? First the scientists and scholars, then the doctors, now the police. It is pretty obvious that British society slowly but certainly is being infiltrated and undermined by muslims. There is no reason to assume that while the infiltration has happened in the National Health Service that the police or even the army or the intelligence services have not been affected.

And, to provoke more thought, why should there be no problem in having a muslim police force in Britain when it is considered unthinkable in Israel? Or, in other words, can anyone conceive a muslim head of Shabak, of Israel Police, or Mossad? Or muslim officers in the Border Police? No? Of course not. So why should that be no problem in Britain?

As long as there is no clear and convincing proof that muslims in the Western societies actively support the freedom and values of these societies that always will be a problem. And that clear and convincing proof so far is nowhere to be seen.

  8. Anonymouse Coweird says:

    Yael - check your email.

John - have you stopped beating your wife? What, in your view, would constitute “clear and convincing proof” beyond the vast majority of Muslims in Western societies doing what they do, exactly the same as the vast majority of non-Muslims in Western societies, which is go to work, try to pay the bills, take care of the kids, etc.

I have no idea what religion or ethnic group you may belong to, but the probability approaches unity that whatever it is, at some point some people have committed some kind of atrocity in its name. Have you issued a press release each and every time that happened denouncing it? No? Well, so much for clear and convincing proof that you actively support Western freedom and values.

Please cut John some slack here. I believe that he is speaking of extremists here only. The recent polls that have come out in the UK and US are alarming many people, like John, who are getting the impression that all Muslims hold extremist views (that is not the case, as you point out). The Muslims who do support terrorism and participate in rioting and destruction of property are giving innocent Muslims a bad name. A few days ago, a Muslim doctor in the US spoke out forcefully against the Muslim doctors involved in the recent terrorist attacks in the UK. And, as you say, many people quietly disagree within their families or communities.
We may certainly disagree here on many matters on this blog, but I do think it is very important to remain civil and polite—to listen to each other and to share our views—even when we disagree very strongly.
John, we have many Muslim and Arab friends who are as concerned as you are– and we all– are about extremism. So, I think that you struck a nerve with Yaeli. Within Israel, many of Israel’s strongest supports are Arab-Israelis. I am glad to read your comments, John, even when I do not agree with you.

  10. Yael says:

Yes absolutely civility to one another even when we disagree is extremely important, my Ema stated that well :) John has shown himself over time to be a very sensitive and open-minded person as well as one with a great deal of experience living in different cultures and his view is always good to hear, even when I, personally, do not agree with it.

I think what John is getting at is that it is extremely difficult, perhaps even impossible, to know if you’ve got a radical terrorist in your midst and is thus taking the most protective stance possible. Terrorists have become quite sophisticated in order to be able to successfully carry out their terrorist attacks and thus they are using people who carefully hide their beliefs and blend seamlessly with the neighbors. The majority of the doctors arrested, for instance, had not been visibly involved in any sort of extremist activities, they did not run around expressing extremist views. Terrorists are recruiting more and more converts who don’t look like they come from the ME to carry out attacks (Richard Reid, for instance, and the couple of women from Belgium and Holland who were to carry out suicide attacks in Iraq).

But you can’t simply ban people from professions based on their religion.

John — here in Israel we do, in fact, have Arab-Israelis in our police force, in our border patrol, in the Shabak, and in the Mossad.

  11. Anonymouse Coweird says:

Fair enough. John, my apologies for personalizing the discussion. I’m afraid I’ve been coarsened by the rough-and-tumble so common elsewhere on these intertubes.

  13. Brenda Landes says:

Well done Yael. We need more voices coming out of Israel to state Israel’s position/

Why are suicide bombers in the West called terrorists by the BBC World Service
and in Israel have often been referred to as freedom fighters and gorrillas.?

Hopefully one day there will be peace and a Palestinian State will exist side by side with Israel, as Mulems and Jews lived in harmony during the Golden Age in Spain.

British foreign policy in Iraq and Israel is not behind the heinous acts of Muslem terrorists, but a desire to impose Sharia on the West, and to kill anyone opposed to this can be legitimized. The Hammas captors of the British journalist in Gaza admitted this to him.
