I agree. I’d like for the Palestinians to be able to have their own state next to Israel and for the two countries to work together for the benefit of all. Dreams do come true and I hope that this one does. Gaza: My heart goes out to those who are trapped in this frightening, dangerous situation.

What Qaddafi means is that this time, the Arab states (either in the form of individual states or as the Arab League) should refrain from getting involved with the Palestinian question. Ever since the creation of the Arab League in 1945, the Palestinian question has been a major factor in Arab politics; the Palestinians are the only non-state actor with representation in the Arab League; if you read the Arab League charter there is an entire article, at the end, I believe, dealing with the Palestinian question. And Arab politics have so often been built around the issue of solidarity with the Palestinians (think of the various Arab-Israeli wars, and of the attempts by countries like Saudi and Egypt to play mediator in recent days) that it almost seems as if the Arab political identity sometimes is built around that question. So for Qaddafi to say that the Arabs should refrain from getting involved this time around is pretty significant.
