cross fingers, hopefully an apartment
I saw two really good apartments tonight both in good areas. One, certainly the best for catless people, was just at the corner Sheinkin at the border of Givatayim and Ramat Gan, and right across from the only cafe (real cafe) that I’ve come across in all my trekking around that area. It was completely renovated with a great kitchen (though no fridge) and had tons and tons of built in storage units in every room. Unfortunately, it was re-done in that “wood” wall paneling and I looked at it and knew instantly that my cats would be like, “WOW, Ema moved us into a great big huge scratching post! How cool is this!” The other place was not at all re-done and is again stoveless (and no where to put a stove) but does have a fridge and is in a great location, right next to the theatre and library on a very quiet, tree-lined street. It is a couple hundred sheks cheaper a month than the other place and the arnona (renters tax) is 150 sheks cheaper every 2 months. Currently 3 students are using it as what I think of as a “squat” –you know, every room but the bath turned into a bedroom, and they’ve been “creative” with the painting of the walls –the kind of creative that you go, soooo right this place is going to be repainted, yes? Unfortunately, both I and a set of girls said we wanted it right at the same time, so the landlord (his current renters were showing it) will call either me or the set of girls tomorrow, depending on who he decides he wants in there. I’m hoping the fact that I’m a professor will lead him my direction. Cross fingers.

Got them crossed!

Why do you have to consider an apt. that is not sufficient to your needs?

Dave, housing (affordable and convenient) in Israel is a big problem if you have specific needs. No cats; piece of cake.

No cats doesnt make looking for an apartment piece of cake.
A million cats can be a damper for landlords,
Still apartment hunting or buying is difficult wether you have pets or not.

Yeah even without cats it is definitely not easy. I’ve friends who have some really great apartments (rented) but it took most of them several months of hunting before they found ‘em. I’ve been looking since May.

Good luck.

Best of luck. No 2 sounds a better bet to me, because a quiet street will be a huge bonus, and you will be able to make over the flat how you want it. Looks to me as if you’re a good improviser and throwout opportunist, so you should have some fun too. Fewer worries, too, about keeping an initially pristine place in the same condition.
You plus cats might well look a much better rental proposition than three rather younger women, who could split any day, each move in boyfriends etc. Hope it works out that way.
