from ahhh to ouch! back and practically buried under work
I got back late on Saturday evening after a full day at the conference and then 21 hours of travel. I was in bed literally an hour after I got home and slept through until 6 a.m. Then it was up for a full day of work. I didn’t have time to eat on Sunday at all but that was more than ok given the ginormous quantities of food I consumed at the conference (I ate HUGE breakfasts, lunches and dinners and copious snacks provided by them in-between, as well as the free ice-cream bars and popcorn provided by the hotel in the evenings and the food was simply amazing). I ate enough at the conference to last me a month! I fell into bed at 10 on Sunday and slept through again until 6, sleeping like a rock despite waking up to find 9 cats curled up on me (who needs a blanket people?!). Clearly my sleep schedule –out of whack before Japan and then thrown into utter chaos from the trip to Japan –has been fixed. Yay
So yesterday I woke up and did a couple hours of email and work before heading in to teach. I theoretically had a half hour break between my two classes but was mobbed by students in-between. After teaching I had 3 meetings, managed to eat my sardines and crackers, and then came home to work for another 5 hours providing detailed feedback to the student groups in one of my classes on their research project proposals. I managed to watch half an episode of Jeremiah before I said, enough, and went to bed. It was later than the previous days (10:30) and so I slept in later this morning, with the alarm going off at 6:30 but me laying like a slug until 7:30. I am, for some reason, still tired this morning. Perhaps it is thinking about my stuffed day today which includes finishing this blog post and leaping in the shower and then heading in to a two-hour faculty meeting, followed by a 5 minute break before teaching two courses in a row (no break between) followed by a fifteen minute break and then a two-hour long meeting. After that, I’ve got to put together the exam for the media ethics course as it has to be sent off before 8 am tomorrow to the people who print it up. And I’ve got to prepare for my courses tomorrow. Clearly I won’t be hitting the bed until midnight or so tonight
I’m still buoyed up by the conference though and have so many ideas for studies that I’m nearly bursting. I am hoping to put one of them together and get it running within the next 3 weeks (any later and I won’t have a subject pool to run it with). So this weekend, as well as preparing the 3-page paper and powerpoint for the conference at Oxford in a week and a half, I’m going to be getting everything set for that study.
I have cute pictures of my cats (and I’m sure you are all dying to hear about Flora and her cloth monkey –no wire monkeys for my cats, I tell you!)

Well, I don’t recommend bursting, it sounds painful and messy, lol! Glad you had a good trip and fixed your sleep schedule. Show us some pics. I’m not sure what a cloth monkey is….
