Shocked by the very shocking ACORN scandal
I’ve been reading today (and watching the actual videos) about the scandalous practices coming out of ACORN. ACORN was a program I strongly believed in and, when I lived in New York, one of the very few programs I made regular donations to because i very much believed in its stated goals and aims, the grassroots way of empowering the disadvantaged. Now I’m in shock. I want my money back. I want these people to go to jail.
Here’s the deal. Two young amateur journalists posed as a pimp and prostitute wanting to set up a brothel. They went to ACORN branches across the country and there, despite clearly stating what they were trying to do, got all kinds of “good” advice on how to set up the brothel without the government being aware of it, how to claim they were earning only 9,600 a year if in fact they were earning 96,000, how to hide the brothel’s true nature, how to smuggle illegal aliens across the border to work in the brothel and more.
But it is worse and this is why I say those workers who gave this advice need to be cooling their jets in jail: They knew and did not care that the “prostitutes” were to be CHILDREN. That’s right. They did not care that little 13-15 year old girls were going to be smuggled into the country and forced to work as prostitutes. One of them even gave advice on how they could claim child tax credits –but for no more than 3 of the children because claiming 4 would send alarm bells to the government. They were told to hide the fact that the children were earning any money at all, from turning tricks or otherwise. One worker advised that they needed to maintain tight control over the children to make sure they didn’t talk.
This is so beyond immorality that I can’t even wrap my mind around it. That you’d end up with just one counselor doing such a thing would be shocking in the extreme but so far at five different branches across the country they got helpful advice on how to harm children and make a good buck off it all at the tax payer’s expense.

I knew that ACORN was at least a weird and undesirable organization when i first encountered it in New Orleans. It has a long history of being unprofessional, and my wonder is that this is just now coming to light. And, I am not surprised that ACORN employees would stoop so low. The corruption is certainly widespread and deeper than even the evidence coming out now shows. There is cause too for people to consider the accuracy of the mainstream media, as CNN and other major news outlets refused initially to air the story. Only Fox stepped up. Finally, when the story could not be suppressed and they were themselves the focus of suppressing the information, did CNN and others allowed the story to be covered on their networks.
I wonder if Obama will disassociate himself from yet another dubious association?

Well, this would have been brought out quite some time ago if ACORN wasn’t a large arm of voter registration for the Democratic party and the MSM’s continuing over-looking of any allegations against Acorn. If journalism ever was unbiased in the past, it is certainly dead now amongst the major networks and news outlets. Even for all of the wild flaws that exist on the net, it is now the citizen’s outlet and the so-called news media can’t stand that they can no longer control what gets to the public. Anyway, that’s my rant for today, lol. It’s just that I used to be in photojournalism and am embarrassed at what I see nowadays.

Lol, Lynne! I think we were typing posts at the same time. Funny how Obama keeps having to throw people and org’s from his past under the bus. Even funnier how the media keeps NOT holding him accountable for all of these past associations……

I know many people who are from very diverse political backgrounds, and whether they are Democrats or Republicans, they all seem to feel that this country is in the gravest danger of becoming a hellhole. And, they have no faith in the mainstream media. None at all.

ACORN has had a long reputation of being just what it has been exposed to be now. One really must wonder how Obama manages to associate with the most corrupt and undersirable people in all of American politics – time and again. There is an old, and true, saying: if you go to bed with dogs, don’t be surprised if you wake up with fleas.
It’s also interesting to see who is still defending ACORN: for example Illinois “Senator” Burris – yes, the one who “did not buy the seat from Blago.”
What a shame.

Mongrel, Acorn’s corruption is so widespread that two inexperienced young people, one barely out of her teens, using their own limited financial means, could travel to the Acorn offices from coast to coast and expose corruption. When I was a social worker in New Orleans, I worked to find housing for low income people suffering from mental illness. Those of us who worked to find housing for our clients knew that Acorn would be no help at all, and that the organization was a sham. Their workers were in most cases plain scary. I am one of those who hopes that Obama is better than we have reason to believe that he is at present and I hope that his views are not those of the extremists that he associated with in the past—that perhaps they were unavoidable contacts that people in politics run across (except for his long association with that nutter Rev. Wright).

We should not over react, the world’s highest concentration of extremists will be found in the settlements on the West Bank.
John, you are just jealous.
