Norwegian doctor Mads Gilbert in Gaza supported 9/11 terror attack
Israeli watchdog group NGO Monitor has noted that one of the foreign media’s favorite Gaza-based interviewees, Norwegian physician Mads Gilbert, is a man with an extremist political past.
Gilbert has been quoted widely, including in a Times of London article where he told friends by SMS, “We are wading in death, blood and amputees. Many children. A pregnant woman. I have never experienced anything so terrible.”
Gilbert also used a BBC interview from Gaza’s Shifa Hospital to cite casualty statistics that he said proved the IDF was deliberately targeting civilians.
According to NGO Monitor, however, Gilbert’s past is indicative of “ideological extremism,” such as when he expressed support for the September 11 attacks on the United States in a 2001 interview in Norway’s Dagbladet newspaper.
In the interview, he argued that “the oppressed also have a moral right to attack the USA with any weapon they can come up with,” adding specifically that he supported the terror attack “within the context which I have mentioned.”
Gilbert was also a candidate for local government in 2007 for the Norwegian Red Party, an outgrowth of the radical Norwegian Workers’ Communist Party.
An Israeli government official also told the Post that “there is no way [Gilbert] could have personal access to the kind of statistics he cited. He got them from the Gaza Health Ministry, which is controlled by Hamas. That raises the question: To what extent is he a willing or unwilling mouthpiece for Hamas?”

Gary Jenkins, I agree that he must be commended for is service to the Palestinian people. It is the true humanitarian, however, who serves all of mankind. His demonizing of Israel and his false statements are regrettable. I do feel devastated by the plight of the good Palestinian people, which is probably the majority of them, who are trapped in this terrible situation. My heart goes out to them. From what I can understand from a friend who has family in Gaza, life has been hell since Hamas took over—daily fear from Hamas’ paranoia, which has been increasing over time.

This is too dumb.
He’s not “demonizing” Israel, and if he was – can you blame him? Everyday he treats men, women, children who are so badly injured by the attacks that it’s a wonder he hasn’t gone mad yet. Hundreds has so far been killed and thousands are injured.
I understand that it’s election day in Israel soon, but there must be another way to display power as a politician? Hasn’t enough people been killed yet? And let’s say Hamas is terrorists for shooting rockets against Israel, don’t they have a reason? Being occupied for so long by people who was “given” the land from the world society? Palestinians have been without proper food and water for months and the wall set up by Israel has cut them off from jobs and their families. My aunt lives in Tel Aviv, she hasn’t noticed anything out of the ordinary since the Israeli invasion.
Who is suffering here? More people has been killed than by combining all of the low-budget rockets Hamas has been shooting towards Israel.
But I guess you don’t care anyway – It’s your land right?

Mads Gilbert is one of the leading trauma anesthesiologists in Norway. He has also a political opinion. Like you and everyone. The difference is, that his opinion is known. Not everyone who write and is interviewed in the media is telling his or her political agenda. You quoted him right, but he said “morally”, not in “reality” and he said also in the same interview “terror is always a bad thing”. You can be sure that he is an opponent of Hamas, but a friend of palestinian people.

if you watch al-jazeera you will become convinced that what mads gilbert said is (very unfortunately) very true. and please don’t tell me the pictures you can see are lies. they speak for themselves. it is a tragedy that something like this happens in the third millenium and the world is not able to condemn it with a united voice…

May God bless you Dr. Mads Gelbert. You said the truth. Yes, Israel targeted civilians (directly). Israel is the enemy of the world.. Israel, the state of Zionism should go to court.
Free Palestine..

I’ve met him and he’s a wonderful, genuine person. Please don’t try to tarnish his good work and image just because you don’t like the fact that he’s exposing what Israel is doing. So typical that you mention that he was apparently in a Communist party – if you can’t destroy him through an Islamic tie, then the Communist one is the next best thing?

Dr.Mads Gilbert is a humble and honest man. He remained neutral in terms of the value of life throughout a recent lecture and stated that any life lost to war, is one life too many. He does not value Palestinian life over Israeli life, even though the opposite is believed to be true by a very misinformed and ignorant portion of people. The propaganda continually pushed by the Israeli and US governments has led to stereotypes and negative images of all Palestinian people. The reality is that the Israeli government has committed war crimes and crimes against humanity. The people of Gaza are imprisoned in an unimaginable hell. Not only are they imprisoned, but they are also cut off from necessary supplies such as water, food, gasoline and rebuilding materials. Until the people of Palestine are treated as human beings and their human rights are recognized, the security of Israel will remain at risk. Solidarity for Palestine and hope to all the families of lives lost (both Israeli and Palestinian) in the political wars of the past century. With hope for peace and justice for all.
