Italy’s secret service protected terrorists against Israel
Well. Well. WELL. So now I am really and truly at a loss for words. Italy’s former President has come out and admitted that they gave terrorists within the PLO and the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine free reign within Italy to set up bases, come and go as they pleased, plan attacks and so forth. They were allowed to run about without any risk of having to undergo mandatory security checks because they were being protected by the Italian secret service. That is right. Protected. Despite the fact that the President noted, “”During my time as interior minister I learned that PLO people were holding heavy artillery in their homes and protected by diplomatic immunity as representatives of the Arab League.” [italics mine]
They made this deal with the devil in order to make sure that the PLO did not attack any domestic Italian targets (and there is the potential for this as they also are determined to “liberate” any lands that were previously, at any time, under Arab rule and this would include sections of Italy).
It now comes out, however, that it was a “work accident” –you know, like those explosions that happen in Gaza all the time and that they try to blame on us — that was responsible for the August 2, 1980 explosion in Bologna’s train station, killing 85 people and wounding more than 200 in the blast. The Palestinian terrorists were transporting explosives when something accidentally went off.
And, it turns out, the Palestinian terrorists were allied with and had intimate ties to the leftist group that kidnapped and executed the very guy who signed the agreement with the Palestinian terrorists –the agreement was approved and directed by former Italian Premier Aldo Moro.
So, now, what other countries in Europe and around the world have cut “deals” with the terrorists who want to kill Israelis and said, “Yeah good go right ahead, we’ll even protect and help you, just don’t touch our people”….how many others…?

I’m surprised you are surprised about that sad news! I would venture to say that most governments protect quite a few criminals for various reasons, good, bad, and indifferent. Some governments are doing it for payoffs, some for what they perceive to pertain to bigger fish they are trying to catch, some to advance a political agenda (either letting “their” criminals go free because they are on “their” side or to make the “other side” in two-party systems look bad), etc and etc. I doubt there is a country on earth that is not doing this sort of thing right now. I think we see this played out in most interactions between humans, from kindergarten on up, in any type of group. I have seen kindergarteners allow bullies to flourish as long as they aren’t bullied. I have seen professors try to ruin others due to jealousy over superior academic ability. I’ve seen police forces keep and protect their own rogue officers on the force. It’s all quite depressing.

Reader –perhaps I shouldn’t be surprised but I nonetheless always manage to be surprised at the depths that political leaders and countries will stoop to.
Jett — yes, certainly the Americans have done some incredibly unethical and disgusting things –look at Iran-Contra back in the 80s for instance. I strongly condemned it at the time and continue to do so today. This news about Italy was certainly not old news to me –indeed the former President of Italy only just came out with the statements the other day in the Italian national newspaper Corriere della Sera, –this was the first I had heard of it and I found it shocking.

It is appalling. Horrifying that any government would assist any group that plans attacks against innocent civilians. I condemn these “arrangements” and terrorist acts no matter who does them. It cannot be justified.

I’d love to know where you commenter “Jett” lives. Evidently, in some fairyland. She or he couldn’t POSSIBLY be living in Israel, right? Where the government is lily white, correct, never doing anything bad, illegal, or immoral for its own gains? HARDLY. No country can claim that. Trashing the United States, shame shame! Very nasty of you if you live there, Jett. Hating the U.S.: An easy game for the millions upon millions on this earth who BITE the hand that FEEDS them and mocks the country that protects them!!! Unfortunately, many leaders of many lands disappoint the people that they represent and those over whom they have power in other lands. Many commit terrible acts for political power and personal gain. It seems more common than the exception.
When I was receiving my training to work as a social worker, one of the psychiatrists explained to our class that —sadly—if we wanted a model of a sociopath to look at many of the world’s leaders. Many leaders believe that rules are for others, not for them and commit nonviolent transgressions —like Edwards in the US who is now in the news. Certainly, he is a terrible disappointment and in my opinion, unfit to run for or hold any office in government (because his narcissism and insensitivity and lying). And then there are those who are so much worse than that, as if that is not bad enough.
Reader, as you point out, each country has bad chapters in its history. If history teaches anything, it should be that wrong acts should not be tolerated by those who value their own lives and liberty.

Sadly, it is not really surprising. The former German government has tried to make a similar deals. The Spanish were quick to fall in line after muslim terrorists struck there. And France surely will not be innocent either. Actually, a vast majority of Europeans think along the lines of “if they only kill Jews and Americans we can live with muslim terrorists.” It is all part of that tradition of appeasement that Europe demonstrated so effectively in Munich in 1938.

its funny how loosely the word terrorist is used today. for me the real terrorist are the IDF and the illegal settlers. how many innocent children have be murdered by the israelis. the palestinians have also killed many israelis but the difference is it was a reponse to zionist action. if a bunch of european jews came to my home and told me this is not my home and you are now a refugee and your house is going to a nice jewish family i wouldn’t take it lying down.and your country is going to end and a new jewish country will be created where there is no room for you,so move on now and if you resist you will be classed as terrorist and destroyed.
