We Western Christians, and you Jews also, have gotten the idea of steadfast oath-keeping from the example of covenant-making-and-keeping YHWH, together with a horror of the idea of betrayal (sure, we’ve had traitors and expedient politicians aplenty, but we don’t admire them, we despise them).
