two little magpies
Jun 28th
My mother has kewl friends. One of her fellow teachers, a few years younger than me, arrived for her first visit to the region and I got to play her israeli tour guide. While she spent most of her time in Bethlehem helping her best friend from childhood get ready to be married, I got to hang out with her for her last couple of days. And boy did we hang. We clicked immediately and, in between wandering the city, talked and talked literally until the early hours of the morning every single night. On Friday we set off exploring More >
computer love
Jun 24th
The new Acer computer is fantastic. I’m in love. Of course, I’d be in love with anything that allowed me to actually connect to the Internet by now. Everything on this puppy is in hebrew –except I can’t get the keyboard to type in hebrew (ye olde alt shift doesn’t seem to work) so I can’t search around for how to really set things up (that is, my help files are all in hebrew but I can’t access the topics I want because I can only search in english, argh). I find vista confusing thus far –nothing is where I More >
bad news coming out of Iran today
Jun 24th
The eyewitness reports coming in from the protests in Iran today are going from bad to worse. Al Arabiya tv is now reporting that the 19 year old girl who was shot in the neck earlier today has died. Reports are coming in right now via twitter from people who have proved quite reliable in their reporting of what is going on (many of them cited in news reports themselves, others who reported information that hours later was confirmed via news reports) that many many more people have been shot, killed and injured in the last hour. Reports from Lalezar More >
computer woes
Jun 23rd
Trying to find a computer that comes with xp rather than vista in this country is a near impossibility and when you do, you find that the cost skyrockets by several thousand shekels. Clearly I am going to end up with the cheaper but world’s worst resource hogging freedom robbing blighted piece of operating system crap ever developed. I am so not a fan of windows vista. I am hoping to get a computer by tomorrow. Currently looking at lenovo or acer. Definitely want an extended warranty. I’m hoping I won’t have to pay more than 3,200 sheks. I can’t More >
computer is dead. dead dead dead
Jun 22nd
hi folks, I’m hoping to be back online on Wednesday or so. My computer died on me last Thursday in the middle of chatting with mysticaljett. It has been in the shop and very much looks like the motherboard (a motherboard from 1998 and not 2007 from the theoretically ‘new’ computer). I’m trying to find a decent replacement currently but it is going to take a few days it seems.
Back online as soon as I can manage it! Going a bit nuts with no connection to the outside world!
Confrm’d: 5000 Hezbollah fighters in Iran to quell protests
Jun 17th
We have confirmation via multiple reliable sources that Hezbollah sent 5,000 armed fighters to help the Iranian govt to quell the protests. Indeed, it seems a significant percent of those attacking and killing protesters are Hezbollah and Hamas fighters in Iran.
I’m reposting here a letter by an Iranian twittermate at request. Pass it on:
Open Letter to all my Lebanese friends June 16, 2009
Dear Lebanese friend
I am sure you have seen the awful images circulated on the news and internet, images captured by millions of Iranians and sent out to the world, so at least someone could hear their side of More >
Hamas members helping crush Iran freedom fighters
Jun 17th
According to exclusive to Jpost article about Hamas role in attacking protesters in Iran, a protester reported: “The most important thing that I believe people outside of Iran should be aware of,” the young man went on, “is the participation of Palestinian forces” in attacking the protesters in Iran.
Another protester, who spoke as he carried a kitchen knife in one hand and a stone in the other, also cited the presence of Hamas in Teheran.
On Monday, he said, “my brother had his ribs beaten in by those Palestinian animals. Taking our people’s money is not enough, they are thirsty More >

Create Disneyland for your cats and other updates
Jun 12th
This could alternately be titled: It will make you laugh til you can’t stand up
If you have a cat or two or even 11 (and it is definitely funnier with 11) then here is a quick way to both clean your house and amuse them and yourself all in one go. Get a mop and dripping wet mopping cloth. Stuff some newly catnipped mousies and bouncy balls in your pocket. Begin to mop. Your cats are sure to consider that floppy cloth scooting about on the floor a wonderful toy to attack. This will annoy you severely. But fear not. More >
Palestinian child “collaborator with Israel” tortured, murdered by family
Jun 11th
From Ynetnews: No mercy in Palestinian Authority: A 15-year-old boy from a village near the West Bank town of Qalqiliya was tortured and executed by family members who suspected him of collaborating with Israel.
A spokesman for Palestinian security forces in the West Bank, Adnan al-Damairi, said the boy was found dead at a family storeroom.
At first, Palestinian officials believed the boy was murdered as result of a criminally motivated domestic dispute, yet a probe conducted by Palestinian police forces revealed the horrifying truth.
Officials said the victim, Raed Sualha, was tortured before he was hanged by his relatives, who suspected that he More >
