Lieberman is just saying what everyone is thinking
Sep 6th
FM Avidor Lieberman has been making all kinds of pessimistic ‘wet blanket’ statements about the current peace negotiations and now Avishai Braverman (labour) has called for him to be fired. Why? Lieberman is saying nothing more than your average Israeli is thinking (and saying, when they can be bothered to lift themselves from the pessimistic depths to pay attention). Indeed, on this particular topic, I’d say the average Israeli would agree that Lieberman’s statements pretty much dovetail with the actual reality of the situation. Dude, if he keeps this up, Lieberman might just end up being the next PM solely on the More >
Dems running away from Health Care Reform
Sep 6th
File this under funny. From Politico: A handful of House Democrats are making health care reform an election year issue — by running against it.
At least five of the 34 House Democrats who voted against their party’s health care reform bill are highlighting their “no” votes in ads back home. By contrast, party officials in Washington can’t identify a single House member who’s running an ad boasting of a “yes” vote — despite the fact that 219 House Democrats voted in favor of final passage in March.
One Democratic strategist said it would be “political malfeasance” to run such an ad More >
100,000 sign daylight savings petition in days
Sep 6th
I signed that puppy on the first day it was up and there were already more than 10,000 signatures: that puppy being the petition to extend the summer time schedule through October. Because right now we are the only country in the world that in early September this year is going to be putting the clocks back. Oh it varies, of course, because our religious nutcases* are intent on having it revolve around Yom Kippur which can occur very early as it does this year or well into October which it does not nearly often enough.
It is nonsensical. Pointless. More >
ack I just knew it
Sep 5th
Remember the other night when I was up at 5 am worried that important things were going to shake down on a holiday? Well, you guessed it! Today is “day 2″ meaning it was the first day of the shots in the stomach (not fun, so so not fun). The nurse who stuck me explained what comes next: I get to merrily get more shots until “day 6″ when I take a shot break and need to have a blood test and an ultrasound. “Oh no. Oh this is a problem,” she said. I immediately started mentally counting forward, HOLY More >
A new first: Obama submits U.S. domestic policies for U.N. review
Sep 5th
Great article appearing in Forbes, “America was founded as a country where no citizen would ever have to submit to the will of a king, or any other brand of despot. But hey, that’s yesterday’s news. President Barack Obama’s administration is now submitting its own special selection of domestic policies and laws for review by the U.N. Human Rights Council, whose 47 members include such tyrannies as Saudi Arabia, Libya, Cuba and China.
Packaged as a 29-page report aiming to create “a more perfect union” in “a more perfect world,” this U.S. self-critique was sent by the State Department on Aug. More >
New York Times tells New York City: Drop Dead
Sep 4th
I must say, things have gotten bizarre in the U.S. This WSJ article had me rolling on the floor incredulously and I figured I’d share the mouth-dropping mirth. Because sometimes things are so sad, and so bizarre that all you can do is laugh. “Now we’ve seen everything. In an editorial today, the New York Times denounces New Yorkers. Wait, it’s even more bizarre than that description makes it sound. The subject, not surprisingly, is the Ground Zero mosque, an ill-conceived idea that has driven much of America’s self-anointed cognitive elite completely around the bend.” Go read
Buyers remorse with Obama: Hillary for 2012 Ad running
Sep 4th
This Democrat dentist puts into words what most Democrats that I know have been thinking when he paid for this ad to be created and is paying for it to start running around the nation: “Let’s make sure the president we should have elected in 2008 will be on the ballot in 2012.” Democrats are not alone, more Americans now agree that Hillary Clinton is qualified to be President (57%) than agree that Obama is qualified to be President (51%). It is actually kinda sad that only 51% of a country think the person who is President has the qualifications to More >
Good to hear moderate muslims speaking out: Deny Abdo conscientious objector status
Sep 4th
Good to hear moderate Muslims speaking out! From Fox An American Muslim organization is asking the U.S. Army to deny a Muslim soldier’s request for conscientious objector status, accusing him of treason and urging the military to punish him to the full extent of the Uniform Code of Military Justice.
Pfc. Naser Abdo, a 20-year-old infantryman who joined the Army one year ago, filed for conscientious objector status in June, saying his faith and the military don’t mix. “As a Muslim, we stand against injustice, we stand against discrimination, and I feel it’s my duty as an individual to do this,” Abdo More >
Hezbollah weapons facility explodes in the ‘civilian’ house (video)
Sep 4th
Yesterday, there was a ‘work accident’ at a Hezbollah weapons storage facility located in a so-called ‘civilian’ home in Southern Lebanon. The Lebanese army went right into action –preventing U.N. forces from coming into the area to assess whether these multiple explosions and blow ups were from weapons stored in violation of U.N. resolution 1706 (of course they were, that resolution wasn’t worth the piece of paper it was written on and everyone knew it at the time. I blame Bush and Condi Rice on that one). If we needed more evidence that the Lebanese Army is now Hezbollah’s poodle, More >
15,000 Hezbollah rockets trained on Israeli cities
Sep 4th
Just peachy ain’t it?
Israel’s ambassador to Washington, Michael Oren, warned Friday that Hezbollah has placed around 15,000 rockets along Lebanon’s border with Israel, including some that could hit southern Eilat.
“The Syrian-Iranian backed Hezbollah poses a very serious threat to Israel,” Oren said in a conference call focused mainly on the new direct Palestinian-Israeli peace negotiations.
“Hezbollah today now has four times as many rockets as it had during the 2006 Lebanon war. These rockets are longer-range. Every city in Israel is within range right now, including Eilat,” he said.
The Red Sea resort of Eilat is the most southern point in Israel.
