Yael

I am not typical. I am not your typical Aliyah candidate: I'm very secular, did not grow up in a zionist household, and have no family living in Israel. I'm not what people typically think of when they hear "Jewish": I have blond hair, blue eyes, and fair skin. I am not your typical American: I speak 2 1/2 languages, used to vote democratic (and I'm originally from the South!), and the last thing I want is a house in the suburbs. So what am I? In many ways, I'm a little bundle of contradictions. Stubborn yet not overly-opinionated (at least on most issues). Shy and reserved when I first meet someone but outgoing and bubbly once you get to know me. Practical but also fun-loving and spontaneous (in a practical kind of way, lol). I believe that I am a kind and caring person (hey, don't we all?). I am passionate about life and fiercely protective of those I love. And I'm crazy about my 3 5 6 cats. And the 40 or so I care for on the street.

Obama declares war on the Supreme Court

Dude, if it didn’t work for FDR it sure as heck isn’t going to work for you. Given that nearly 80% of Americans now want at least the individual mandate portion of Obamacare repealed, bashing the court is simply politically stupid. Obama said yesterday that the “unelected” Supreme Court must avoid the “extraordinary … unprecedented” measure of striking down his unconstitutional Obamacare plan.

Dude, you are supposed to be a Constitutional lawyer so why on earth did you allow a bill to be crafted that does not and cannot pass Constitutional muster? Oh, that’s right, you handed the crafting off to a More >

Hezbollah supporting terrorists in Austin (also suspected of murder)

This hasn’t been in the national news but my Ema has sent me along the local news updates. There are 9 Muslim-Americans in Austin currently under federal investigation for murder, money laundering, drug-running and giving support to Hezbollah. One suspect also has ties to the Texas Syndicate prison gang, known for drug trafficking and murder. Peachy.

Reverse boycott the racist Emma Thompson

Ynet reports: Leading British actors, directors and authors have been pressing Shakespeare’s Globe Theater in London to withdraw its “Globe to Globe” festival invitation extended to Israel’s Habima Theater, over its “shameful record of involvement with illegal Israeli settlements in occupied Palestinian Territory.”

In a letter published in The Guardian newspaper Friday, actors, directors and authors such as Emma Thompson, Mike Leigh, David Calder, Trevor Griffiths and Miriam Margolyes, to name a few, called on Shakespeare’s Globe Theater to take back the invitation “so the festival is not complicit with human rights violations and the illegal colonization of occupied land.”

sorting, grading, cooking, cleaning

The good thing about Pesach is it really makes you take stock of all the useless crud you’ve accumulated. Actually, in my case this year, it is all the stuff that was useful but is now in less-than-pristine/useful condition or is really nice but I just don’t use.

I decided to get really ruthless on the clothing thing. I’m more than half-way through sorting every item of clothing I own and have so far donated four sizable grocery bags full of things. Some of the things were never/barely worn and really nice –the problem was: this is Israel and there More >

Hilarious. The promise of hope

Wow, can’t believe this was posted over at HuffPo! Totally hilarious sarcastic video on the “hope” Obama has brought.

Obamacare ‘train wreck’ has now turned into a ‘plane wreck’

Yeah, that bad. A “stunning turn of events” no less. “At least 5 votes to get rid of the whole law.” Following Day 3 of the U.S. Supreme Court hearing on ObamaCare, CNN’s liberal–er, legal–analyst Jeffery Toobin once again says that the individual mandate is doomed, doomed, I tell you (and clearly he does too).

After Day 2, Toobin referred to the defense of Obamacare before the court as a “train wreck for the Obama administration.” Obviously, on Day 3, things got worse for the Obama-bot, eh lawyer, with Toobin noting that the train wreck had now increased in intensity More >

Daylight!! Put your clocks forward and jump for joy

This is the happiest day of the year for me. The clocks sprang forward an hour and that means we’ve got longer sunshiny days. Honestly, given where we are on the latitude and longitude scale, I don’t see any reason to ever put them back. We would save a ton of money in energy consumption if we just let daylight shine on for that extra hour all year round. Given that our electric bills have just jumped a whopping 25%, that is no small amount of change to be saved.

French police arrest 20 Islamist terrorists, seize weapons

From Ynet: French police arrested some 20 suspected terrorists in dawn raids Friday, a source privy to the operations said. Most of the raids were carried out in the city of Toulouse, and police sources reported finding some arms, including at least one Kalashnikov machinegun.

The raids were carried out by the French police’s special counter-terrorism intelligence unit (DCRI) and elite police unit RAID – the same unit that carried out the 30 hour standoff with Merah on March 22, but an official police source stressed that there was no connection between Merah and the arrest of radical Islamic activists.

The stupidity of the Obamacare legislation

You know, here’s the deal. If the Obama administration wanted to institute universal healthcare they could have crafted very simple, impervious to challenge, in line with the Constitution, straightforward legislation and without taking 2700 pages to do it.

Quite literally, all they needed to have done was this:

1. Pass a healthcare tax to be levied on all taxpayers 2. Create one (or several) government over-seen (i.e. NOT PRIVATE) health plans that would automatically cover all citizens. Here, for instance, you can choose whether you want Maccabi, Clalit, Meuhedit (I think that is a new one) or Leumit but you have to More >

Bloomberg outlaws food donations to homeless shelters in NYC!

This is nuts. Seriously, Bloomberg is nutty as a fruitcake. Restaurants, bakeries, and individuals can no longer donate surplus food to homeless shelters in New York City because “the city can’t assess their salt, fat and fiber content.”

Glenn Richter arrived at a West Side synagogue on Monday to collect surplus bagels — fresh nutritious bagels — to donate to the poor. However, under a new edict from Bloomberg’s food police he can no longer donate the food to city homeless shelters.

It’s the “no bagels for you” edict.

“I can’t give you something that’s a supplement to the food you already have? More >
